Member Spotlight: Breathing Room Massage Therapy

In 2019, Ginny Coon found herself looking for a new career path. She had a background in education, but had always loved massage therapy. During COVID, she decided to go back to school. This time, for massage therapy at WakeTech.

After finishing massage therapy school in 2021, she began working with a massage therapy business but soon realized she wanted to go out on her own. Fast forward to 2024, she learned about Office Ours and decided to take a chance working for herself by leasing her own office suite. She had planted the seeds for Breathing Room Massage Therapy to grow and was ready to execute.

Ginny wants to provide a space and service where clients can come in, relax, and reset their nervous system. She often finds that people can be intimidated by massage therapy or think it is an expensive luxury service. In reality, regular massage can be a practical part of maintaining overall health and well-being. By creating a welcoming environment, Ginny helps clients feel at ease from the moment they walk in.

After moving into her own office at the Garner Office Ours location, her business began to grow. She utilized the Garner Chamber of Commerce, located next door to Office Ours. She became a chamber member and started meeting other business owners in the area. Her business has grown due to the chamber’s support, which has empowered her to talk to more people and network.

Ginny enjoys having her massage therapy practice at Office Ours because of the great location. The building is highly visible and easy for her clients to find. She enjoys talking and networking with other small business owners in the building. She also finds that when a problem or maintenance issue arises, it is addressed and resolved quickly. Office Ours has given Ginny the tools to keep growing her business in Garner.

Ginny is a part of the LaunchGarner entrepreneurial cohort, which is a course for new business owners in Garner. She also teaches massage therapy courses at WakeTech, the same place she was a student just a few years ago. In addition to offering massage therapy at her 500 Benson Road office in Garner, she also provides chair massage for community events.

The Heartache of Working From Home

The Coffee Shop Conundrum

The coffee shop will never have to be your conference room ever again.

As I usually do, I stopped at a coffee shop on my way into the office the other day. As I hurried across the parking lot, a car wrap caught my eye for a company that deals with estate sales of elderly parents who are transitioning to an assisted living facility. Wow. Heavy stuff.

My first thought was about how I went through something similar with my parents a few years back. But then, as is my habit, I noticed, “they don’t have a business address posted on the wrap, I wonder if Office Ours can help?” What can I tell you? Work is always on my mind.

I was also curious: “does the salesperson travel around the Triangle meeting with clients at coffee shops?” Hmm. I felt certain that all parties of this highly emotional, private subject matter would benefit from a private office or a conference room big time. I decided, in that moment, if I met the owner in line, I would give him my business card.

Public place. Private meeting.
Sure enough, not 5 feet from the door, a sales guy was opening a large tri-fold brochure of estate sales services to an overwrought person—someone whose parents were going through a transition. I was shocked. Such a private and emotional, human moment was being discussed in front of people walking in and out of a coffee shop. Preventing this exact type of scenario is what made me passionate about opening Office Ours.

Take the space you need. Everybody benefits.
No business should feel like they can’t afford a private meeting space, especially when they need it. But Office Ours takes it one step further by providing multiple locations around Wake County, and, now Lee County, making office space and conference room space more available to all. It’s our mission.

Why? The truth is certain industries require a place to meet; a place where they can discuss private topics with clients, conduct interviews, or have team meetings. Plus, like today, sometimes privacy is needed to respect a person’s right to be lost, emotional, sad, overwhelmed and comforted. While other times it’s necessary because of confidential information or trade secrets that will be exchanged. And still, all that just scratches the surface.

What do you need? What’s your reason?
Perhaps you just need a place with no distractions. Personally, I hate when the person across from me is slurping coffee and chomping on a blueberry muffin. Then there’s the person on my right on a sales phone call, having a conversation like nobody else is around. While the person on my left can’t stop looking at what is on my laptop more than what is on their own. Ugh.

Don’t get me wrong. Coffee shops are a wonderful thing. Love meeting my friends there to catch up. But conference room access for as little as a $5 cup of coffee every day is even better. I left my Office Ours business card under the driver’s side windshield wiper of the car wrap car. Ironically, I didn’t want to intrude on the meeting. No call yet. But here’s to hoping.

Member Spotlight: Drivers of the Future

If you have noticed an increase in student driver bumper stickers or driving school signs on vehicles, you aren’t going crazy. A surge in privately owned driver education schools has been popping up throughout the Triangle. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the public school system has a growing wait list of high school students who are old enough to take driver’s education, but there aren’t enough teachers. Savannah Gregory and her partner Fernando Castellanos noticed this problem and decided to take matters into their own hands.

Savannah and Fernando met as instructors at a different driver’s education school before deciding to move forward with their own school. Their first order of business was to get an office, and the second, get a more up to date curriculum approved to better meet the needs of their students. Students come to their class either in person or virtually, attend lectures, and complete hours behind the wheel. Drivers of the Future teaches students of all backgrounds, countries, and ages, most recently teaching a new driver who was 65 years old.

Savannah feels most passionate about helping not only the individual students but also their entire families. Being able to drive allows people to go to work, pick up their children from school, and be a part of a community.One of the most critical steps in starting a driver’s education school is getting approved by the DMV. The NC DMV requires all driver education schools to have an office, a classroom, or a conference room to teach classes and signage. Having an office has given them the flexibility to use the space for themselves, their students, and the students’ families. Savannah says, “Office Ours gave us the ability to have a personal office location and flexible options for our classroom instruction with the conference rooms.” They can easily book the different conference rooms depending on the class size. Their students have a long day when they come to Drivers of the Future, sometimes spending up to six hours in the class. It was essential to Savannah to have a clean, comfortable building and a place where they could quickly heat their food or take a break from class. Parents and family members can utilize the lobby area while waiting for their student to complete exams or classes.

Drivers of the Future is a minority and women owned company that has now been in business for ten months.They are excited to start offering automotive maintenance classes to teens and adults within the following year as well as utilize the latest in technology to improve the way drivers education is taught. With innovative new ways to teach students how to drive, the future is bright.

Member Spotlight: Charles Calloway

Serving clients and building an agency. These are the two things that Charles Calloway thinks about every day when he gets to work. Charles never considered being a financial advisor when he decided to join The United States Air Force as a young adult. While in the Air Force, he was an instructor and taught leadership and management classes in Tucson, Arizona. Asset management and finance were not at the top of his mind at this point in his life. How he got into his current career in financial advising happened by accident.

After joining the Air Force, Charles started teaching leadership classes. The instructor he replaced was leaving the Air Force to become a financial advisor, and he stopped by one day to teach Charles about his new role and how things like mutual funds and IRAs worked. This was a turning point for Charles. He realized that this was something he was interested in and, more importantly, something he could turn into a career. Charles started doing financial advising on the side while in the Air Force but eventually gave up his license due to the Air Force job becoming more demanding.

Eventually, Charles left the Air Force and started working on his financial advising career in Tucson, Arizona. After dipping his toe in the corporate world and moving to North Carolina, Charles found his way back to financial advising with Primerica. Nowadays, Charles focuses on helping families make wiser choices with their money, get out of debt, and find financial independence. Charles is also passionate about educating the next generation of financial professionals who will continue to serve clients long after he retires.

Charles has spent the last four years leasing an office at Office Ours in Garner, North Carolina. Charles was drawn to Office Ours because of the location and office space, but also everything else that came with it. A phone system, conference room access, and Wi-Fi were included, which made it a no-brainer when he decided to sign the lease. He also knew he could scale his business at Office Ours. After graduating from art school, Sara McGee became a tattoo artist in the Raleigh area. Eager to work for herself and wanting to switch gears after the COVID-19 pandemic, she started her own cosmetic tattoo business, Stay Stunning Permanent Makeup. Sara has successfully grown her business over the last few years, from finding the right location to educating others on what permanent makeup is.

One of the biggest questions Sara gets is, “What is permanent makeup?” Permanent makeup is a semi-permanent or cosmetic tattoo. This type of tattoo can include eyebrows, eyeliner, lips, or blush. Pretty much any makeup you put on your face could also be tattooed. Microblading, or semi-permanent eyebrow tattoos, is the number one procedure she does almost daily. The ink for permanent makeup does not go as deep as a tattoo, so it is designed to fade slowly. Sara provides a free consultation with her clients to learn more about them and what type of permanent makeup they would like. She does very personalized work because no two faces or eyebrows are alike. Sara’s work helps her clients feel more confident and better about themselves.

Sara has leased an office with Office Ours in Garner since September 2022. Finding the right office for her business was important because there are many requirements when opening a permanent makeup studio, such as tile floors and water access inside the office space. Carolina Cruz’s goal is to help people feel better without the help of surgery or drugs. She started her own business, Carolina’s Massage Therapy, one year ago after working for other massage therapy businesses for the previous five years. With her goal in mind and the drive to start a business on her own, she has weathered difficulties like Covid-19 with ease and is seeing business pick up now more than ever.

After receiving her associate’s degree in science, Carolina began working for a large massage therapy company. She watched as the owner grew the business quickly after starting it alone. Now, the owner has an entire building dedicated to her massage therapy practice. After working for this company for a few years, Carolina decided to make the jump and start her own massage therapy business.

Carolina specializes in Thai massage and other modalities like barefoot or “back walking,” cupping, and Graston technique. These different types of massage help with pain management, mobility, flexibility, and overwell health and wellness. Carolina sees clients from all walks of life seeking her treatments to feel physically and mentally better.

In December 2021, Carolina moved her massage therapy practice into Office Ours Garner location on Benson Road. She needed a private office space that was quiet and clean, which she had found with Office Ours. With easy parking at the front of the building and handicapped parking at the back of the building, Carolina can accommodate all of her clients. Safety was another concern that she does not have to worry about at Office Ours. As a busy mom, Raquel Lozada always wondered if other people were going through the same things as her. Chores around the house, items are piling up in corners, and cleaning is not getting done because no one in the house has the time. These are all scenarios many can relate to and things most people want to avoid. Raquel wanted to start working for herself and saw a career in professional cleaning when she realized other families were experiencing the same pressures to keep a clean house while also spending time with their families. Raquel designed her business, A Touch From Above, around giving families something back that everyone needs more of, time.

When Raquel started her professional cleaning business in 2018, she was excited but also scared. Although she was scared, she knew she had a great business idea and always remembered that “blessings come on the other side of fear.” With hard work and perseverance, they have grown their business and now have six employees with the company. Their clients often start off as families or people who want a one-time cleaning to get their house back on track. After seeing the before and after, 95% of her clients become recurring customers. Many customers say they never knew they could afford professional cleaning services and are surprised to find out they can. Her customers get time back that they can spend with their families doing what they want.

New Office Ours Location!

We are excited to announce that Office Ours is working on our fifth location, which will be on Carbonton Road in Sanford. It is centrally located between the Central Carolina Hospital and downtown Sanford only 2 miles from the US-1 exit. This location will offer private offices, virtual offices, and a conference room. Amenities include a kitchen area, lobby, fully furnished offices, a copy center, and professionally managed Wi-Fi. We are now pre-leasing at this location and expect to open this fall. Bianca Sullivan moved from Jacksonville, NC to Raleigh with one goal: to help people physically and mentally with massage therapy. After graduating, working for other massage therapy corporations, and losing her home to Hurricane Florence, Bianca knew it was time to move and begin the journey of starting her own business. She gave herself a goal of one year, and in that one year, her business, Bleu Heavenly Touch Massage, has flourished.

Bleu Heavenly Touch Massage was started during a time when many businesses were still shut down. She was nervous about how Covid would affect her plans but moved forward into her own office suite at Office Ours in May 2021. She knew she was taking a risk but luckily, through word of mouth, her business grew. She credits her business’ success to specializing in a specific type of massage therapy that isn’t very common in the Triangle area which is providing relief to patients post-surgery. Post-operative massage helps with lymphatic drainage and swelling that is common after surgery for people who have had cancer, injuries, lymphodema, tummy tucks, and liposuction, to name a few. Bianca enjoys helping men and women who feel beautiful from the inside out while also helping them find relief after invasive surgeries.

After working out of her home and doing mobile massage therapy, Bleu Heavenly Touch Massage opened in 2021 with one office suite at an Office Ours location in North Raleigh. In 2022, Bianca expanded again into a second office after experiencing an increase in clients needing her services. She loves the professional setting and location central to many of her patients who come from as far as two hours away to seek her treatments. She also likes how safe the location is with security cameras and how there are other like-minded business owners at this location who also call Office Ours home. With wheelchair access to the building and a lobby, her clients are able to comfortably wait for their services.

Bianca is excited to continue to grow her business by adding new employees and possibly expanding to other locations. She hopes to open satellite offices one day as well. She also wants to teach others to do this type of post-operative massage that is uncommon but needed in this area. She hopes that by training others, specifically women, to do what she does, she will inspire them to start their massage therapy businesses.
